Area 7 of 7 · Data, backup and recovery
Recover Safely
Things go wrong even for careful people. What you do in the first hour decides how much you get back.

Learn: five habits
Dada explains what to do, and why it works.
Act within the first hour
If money is gone, call 1930 at once. Then ask your bank to block the account, card or UPI, and file a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in.
Why: Banks can hold the money only before it moves on. RBI rules also limit your loss when you report an unauthorised transaction quickly.
Keep the evidence
Take screenshots of the chats, note the transaction ID, the numbers and the time. Do not delete anything.
Why: A complaint with details can be acted on. A complaint without them cannot.
Back up what matters
Turn on automatic backup for photos, contacts and documents. Keep one more copy on a drive at home.
Why: A lost, broken or locked phone should cost you a phone, not ten years of photos.
Be ready before you lose your phone
Turn on Find My Device today. Dial *#06# and write down the IMEI number somewhere safe.
Why: With these two you can lock the phone from anywhere and block it on every network.
Beware of the second scam
Ignore anyone who offers to recover your lost money for a fee, however official he sounds.
Why: Recovery happens only through 1930, the portal, your bank and the police. None of them charge you.
Red flags to remember
- Someone promising to get your lost money back for a fee
- "Cyber police" messaging you on WhatsApp after you post about a fraud
- Being told to wait a few days before reporting
- A demand for more money to release the amount that is "stuck"
